C12th Palace with five apartments near Perugia in Umbria

Palazzi Rufini is a small C16th hamlet situated near Perugia in Umbria. In 1200 the building started life as a warning tower, and in the following centuries it was transformed from a solitary tower into a palace, a hunting pavilion, a resting place for horses and a travellers lodge for those on their way to Perugia or crossing Italy from one coast to the other. In 1880 it was bought by the Rufini family and became the centre of a flourishing agricultural farm dedicated to the cultivation of the mulberry tree and silkworm. After the silk fortune, the palace and villa were converted into a farmhouse producing traditional crops together with grapes and olives. Today it has been completely renovated back into a splendid country house whose biological farm consists of vegetables, fruit and olives.
The Palazzi is divided into five apartments (accommodating from four to eight people), all tastefully furnished with rustic and antique furniture. All kitchens are fully equipped with washing machine, dishwasher and oven.
Outside there is a lovely swimming pool set in extensive gardens with views over the hills towards the village of Capocavallo. Palazzi Rufini is also able to offer guests regional cooking lessons, and painting and sculpture classes during the spring and summer months
